This paper deals with the prediction of the iron losses in electrical machines with periodic non sinusoidal flux waveform. From the proposed method, reliable aids to the practical prediction of the iron losses in designing an electrical machine are obtained, starting from the data delivered by the steel producers. In particular, a switched reluctance motor (SRM) is considered. The iron loss densities are given for the typical flux waveforms which can be found in the iron core branches of the motor, starting from the available loss data for sinusoidal excitation
