Research on Evaluating Organic Loading Rate of PVA-Gel Biocarrier on Seafood Processing Wastewater Treatment

Maintaining the stable quality of effluent from aeration process of seafood processing wastewater treatment system is very difficult due to the high ammonia concentration and fluctuation of the contaminant load in the influent. In order to increase the organic loading for activated sludge process, the polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) gel media is added and the experimental results show that the higher media ratio inside the aeration tank the higher efficiency could be gained. With a 20% volumetric ratio of PVA-Gel media, the organic loading capacity (BOD5) can increase twice. In order to ensure that the stable quality of effluent meets column B, QCVN 11-MT:2015/BTNM, the following parameters are suggested: Hydraulic Retention Time (HRT) ≥ 12h; Sludge concentration (MLVSS): 2,0 g/l; Volumetric organic loading rate (VOLR) ≤ 0,5gBOD5/L.d.In addition, when influent load fluctuates, the operation should change the media ratio according to the variation of organic load
