The extreme solidarity of the end of life cares: The problem of the relationship between the representations of death and counseling

In the 19th Century, maybe for the first time in the humanity story, the process of dying had been concealed. The successes of medicine have lengthened lifespan and the implementation of medical structures have facilitated the processes of containment and hiding of the end of life. Nowadays we are in front of a renaissance of the topics inherent to the death and many social services that reduce the isolation of the terminal sick and their mourners. In Italy, experts of thanatology start offering this new important service, that requires an important holding ability. The most important problem that they must be able to manage concerns of the different representation of death. The Terror Management Theory (TMT) shows how actually the need of defending against mortality salience produces a heavy attachment with specific saving ideologies, that may be thrown into a profound crisis by the intercultural contact.
