This paper applies cost-benefit analysis (CBA) to evaluate and compare the economic efficiency of two alternatives in using the resource of Thi Nai lagoon, Binh Dinh province: including (i) aquaculture development and (ii) mangrove restoration. On the basis, the index of economic returns for these two options is calculated and compared. The result shows that the mangrove restoration option obtains higher economic returns compared to that of aquaculture development. This means that the mangrove restoration is more deserved to be selected than using Thi Nai lagoon wetland for aquaculture development as it is now. Based on the results, we recommend some policy implications for sustainable management of the resource
