Impacts of Salt Intrusion on Aquaculture Activities in the Downstream of Thu Bon River – Quang Nam Province

Assessing the impact of saltwater intrusion on aquaculture activities is the basis for orienting and implementing the measures for sustainable aquaculture in Thu Bon River downstream. The study results indicate that, salt intrusion has major impact on shrimp-culture at Thu Bon river downstream.These have been shown not only by the scope (including four areas: Thanh Ha - Cau Lau, Cam Kim - Thanh Ha, Thuan Tinh - Cam Nam, and Cua Đai - Thuan Tinh) but also by impact levels (with aspects such as humans, rearing environment, diseases, water supplies, production, farming area). Cam Thanh areas with salinity ranging 10-25‰, salinity fluctuations during the day not exceeding 5‰ is suitable for shrimp culture activities.Meanwhile, Cam Nam, Duy Vinh, and Duy Nghia areas have larger fluctuations in salinity of 5‰,which makes shrimp culture activities in the region more difficult
