This article presents a comparison of using techniques of optimal load flow and decision tree in making corrective voltage control actions for electrical power systems under insecure operation condition, that is, with voltage constraints violated. The decision tree technique is used in conjunction with a technique of sensitivity analysis in such a way that control actions are taken to be more effective to eliminate the voltage constraints violation in each case of contingency analyzed. A comparison is made between the control actions suggested by the optimal load flow strategy and those suggested by the decision tree for the same operating condition, discussing the achievement of implementing these actions in a real power system.
