In his book Natural Law and Natural Rights, Finnis establishes a dialogue between two perspectives or visions regarding the foundation of human rights: the classic, which emphasizes what is due in a relationship of justice, and the modern, focused on the people who benefit from that relationship. From this dialogue of legal traditions, Finnis tries, on the one hand, to offer an objective foundation of these rights, rooting them in those basic goods that constitute the central dimensions of human flourishing and not in subjective preferences.
