Study on Fabrication and Optical Properties of Ion Er3+ in B2O3-Bi2O3-Al2O3-ZnO Glass

B2O3-Bi2O3-Al2O3-ZnO (ZABB) glasses doped with 0.1% to 1.5% mol of Er3+ were prepared by melt quenching method. Measurements of X-ray diffraction (XRD) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) confirmed non-crystalline structure and the composition of samples. Optical properties were analyzed by photoluminescence (PL) excitation and emission spectra. The PL excitation spectra indicated that the most suitable wavelength to excite the luminescence of the samples is 378 nm. The PL emission spectra exhibited 4 peaks at 410 nm, 525 nm, 545 nm, and 660 nm corresponding to electronic transitions of 2H9/2 à 4I15/2, 2H11/2 à 4I15/2, 4S3/2 à 4I15/2, and 4F9/2 à 4I15/2, respectively.
