Voltage stabilization is essential for a power system. Thyristor-controlled reactors (TCR) can be used to improve the voltage quality, yet it has a major drawback of generating harmonic currents. These harmonics have important effects on the power system quality, such as distortion of voltage as well as current wave forms and increasing power loss. This paper presents the application of TCR and its harmonic resource, the modelling of components in studying harmonics in power systems, and algorithm of analysis of effects of the harmonic currents generated by TCR on voltage quality based on load flow algorithm.
