Aktivitas Antibakteri Ekstrak Etil Asetat Biji Mahoni (Sweitenia Mahagoni) dan Daun Jeruju (Acanthus Ilicifolius) terhadap Bakteri Salmonella Thypi dan Shigella Flexneri serta Bioautografinya

Diarrhea is a disease caused by pathogenic microorganisms such as Salmonella typhi and Shigella flexneri. Mahogany seeds and jeruju leaves are medicinal plants that have the potential as antibacterial. This study aimed to determine the antibacterial activity of the ethyl acetate extracts of Sweitenia mahagoni and Acanthus ilicifolius against Salmonella thypi and Shigella flexneri bacteria and to identify the group of active compounds. Mahogany seeds and jeruju leaves were extracted by maceration using ethyl acetate and then an antibacterial test was performed using the disk diffusion method against Salmonella thypi and Shigella flexneri bacteria. The loading of mahogany seed extract was 8, 7, 6,5 mg/disk while the jeruju leaf extract was 6, 5, 4, 3 mg/disk. Ciprofloxacin 5 µg was used as a positive kontrol and DMSO 100% 10 µL as a negative kontrol. Mahogany seed extract has an inhibitory effect on Salmonella thypi and Shigella flexneri bacteria at a concentration of 8 mg/disk, 11±1 mm and 25±0.5 mm, respectively. Jeruju leaf extract has an inhibitory effect on Salmonella thypi and Shigella flexneri bacteria at a concentration of 6 mg/disk, respectively, of 12.3±0.5 mm and 22.6±2.5 mm. The results of phytochemical screening showed that both extracts had the same compounds, namely alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins and tannins. Bioautography shows that both extracts contain active compounds of flavonoids and phenols
