Theory of Inventive Problem Solving (TRIZ): Case Study

TRIZ comes from the Russian acronym of the phrase Theory of Inventive Problem Solving ("TieoriyaRiesheniya Izobrietatielskij Zadach" or Теория решения изобретательских задач). This theory forsolving problems and projects invention was developed by the Russian inventor Genrich Altshuller and hiscolleagues since 1946. This methodology is based on the belief that there are universal principles of theinvention, which are the basis for creative innovations that assist in the advancement of technology.Depending on the amount of data and the availability of data analysis methods, problems can be classifiedas structured, semi-structured or unstructured. Structured Problems are those whose solution depends on asingle series of steps. The data set is known and a known sequence, a structured data identical problem willalways have the same solution must be followed. In unstructured problems there is not an algorithm thatensures to reach an optimal solution, either because there is insufficient information on the factors thataffect the solution or because there are many potential factors, which can not be formulated with anyalgorithm that guarantees a unique solution is correct. Actually, TRIZ improves the methodology forproblem solving structured by applying its principles to the early stages of conventional structuredmethodology more creative and advanced measures that make the resolution process more efficient andeffective, also this methodology can be applied to unstructured problems. In this paper, an analysis of themethods of TRIZ Theory is made and two case studies are addressed through this methodology
