Application of Reliability Theory to Design of Reinforced Concrete Beams

Design of reinforced concrete (RC) structures according to traditional method involves several kinds of uncertainties, which are usually considered through the safety factors prescribed in the codes of practice. This paper addresses the possibility of applying reliability theory to the design of reinforced concrete beams according to Vietnam standard (TCVN 5574-2012). In Vietnam, the application is still in initial phrase and will develop in next years. The method will ensure safety, economy and adequacy of the structure.The application to the design of a reinforced concrete frame of a building located in Vinh Long province shows the effectiveness of the proposed method
