Tb3+ doped GdPO4 nanoparticle phosphors were successfully obtained by a straightforward combustion method. The morphologies, crystal structure and optical characteristics were investigated by methods: XRD, SEM, photoluminescence spectra (PL), and lifetime decay. The GdPO4:Tb nanoparticles show in good crystallinities with a pure monoclinic phase and the average particle size was about 20 nm. Under excitation wavelength at 273 nm, photoluminescent emission spectra of GdPO4:Tb3+ nanoparticles show strong characteristics emission of Tb3+ ions with 5D4 - 7FJ (J=3,4,5,6) transitions. The best concentration of Tb3+ ions was investigated to be 10 mol%. Besides, the lifetime of the sample GdPO4: 10mol% is the longest reaching 5,4 ms
