In this paper, the authors present a method to design a stand-alone photovoltaic power system. The designed system includes a photovoltaic array system, a DC-DC boost converter with a maximum power point tracking algorithm, and a DC-DC buck converter plus a battery charger. The incremental conductance technique is proposed for tracking the maximum power point generated by the photovoltaic system. Also, the concept of current regulation method is presented for charging battery to increase the battery lifetime. In order to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, simulations are carried out by using Matlab/Simulink software and then the results are analyzed
