In preparation for her doctoral research on rethinking the Boe Declaration and security in the Pacific, Leituala Kuiniselani Toelupe Tago developed the Talatalaga research methodology, an Indigenous qualitative research approach for her fieldwork. Through use of an Indigenous methodology, she isrethinking — and decolonising — security in the Pacific. The methodology will be used alongside the Malu conceptual framework (outlined in an accompanying In Brief) which ensures a gendered approach to the research. The philosophy behind the Talatalaga methodology encourages a disciplined attitude, builds confidence and academic credibility for Pacific researchers.
