the psychologist in the brazilian penal system

The present research has as its theme the role of the psychologist in the Brazilian penal system, in view of the contradictions involved in the formation and in the forms of intervention of the psychologist focused on this field. The interest in the subject arose from the need to problematizes the existence and functioning of the penitentiary institution, its historical and social roots and original epistemological bases that gave them scientific foundations, and the place of psychology in this field, as well as its relations with this production of positivist criminology, wich emerged in the mid-nineteenth century. In order to carry out such discussion, bibliographic research was carried out, briefly approaching the history of the penal system, later, with the objective to contemplate and problematize the social reality that we witness today in Brazil. In this historical movement, we approach the current guidelines for the performance of the penitentiary psychologist that has been revealed in a critical way to the legacy left by the biodeterminist, classificatory and excluding knowledge of criminology to psychology. In the current brazilian prison context, we discussed obstacles to an ethical performance of the psychologist in this scenario, and whether other modalities of action would be possible that prioritize the realization of human rights.Trabalho de Conclusão de Curso (Graduação)O presente trabalho tem como tema a atuação do psicólogo no sistema penal brasileiro, tendo em vista as contradições envoltas na formação e nas formas de intervenção do psicólogo voltado para este campo. O interesse pelo tema surgiu a partir da necessidade de problematizar a existência e o funcionamento da instituição penitenciária, suas raízes históricas e sociais e bases epistemológicas originárias que lhes deram fundamentação científica, e sobre qual o lugar da psicologia neste campo, bem como suas relações com esta produção da criminologia positivista, surgida em meados do Século XIX. Com o intuito de realizar tal discussão, foi realizada uma pesquisa bibliográfica abordando brevemente a história do sistema penal, posteriormente, tendo como objetivo contemplar e problematizar a realidade social que presenciamos hoje no Brasil. Abordamos neste movimento histórico as diretrizes atuais para a atuação do psicólogo penitenciário que têm se revelado de forma crítica ao legado deixado pelo conhecimento biodeterminista, classificatório e excludente da criminologia à psicologia. No contexto carcerário brasileiro atual, discutimos entraves para uma atuação ética do psicólogo nesse cenário, e se seriam possíveis outras modalidades de atuação que primassem pela efetivação dos direitos humanos
