The present essay situates itself in the intersection of gender studies and peacebuilding research, approaching the role of rwandan women during and after the 1994 genocide, as well as the challenges faced by them. For that, it considers the most relevant historical events since the country’s foundation, specially in the matters of Rwanda's political and social structure, to identify violence in its structural and cultural roots, which hatch into the brutal manifestation of war. Thereby, the study seeks to establish relations between the trauma lived by women and its implications for societal healing.
