A Gender Perspective on Trauma and Peacebuilding in Rwanda: The Role of Rwandan Women in Peace Reconstruction After the 1994 Genocide

The present essay situates itself in the intersection of gender studies and peacebuilding research, approaching the role of rwandan women during and after the 1994 genocide, as well as the challenges faced by them. For that, it considers the most relevant historical events since the country’s foundation, specially in the matters of Rwanda's political and social structure, to identify violence in its structural and cultural roots, which hatch into the brutal manifestation of war. Thereby, the study seeks to establish relations between the trauma lived by women and its implications for societal healing. The proposed objective is to understand the factors which limit the advancement of feminist policies and how they affect the construction of positive peace.Pesquisa sem auxílio de agências de fomentoTrabalho de Conclusão de Curso (Graduação)O presente trabalho se situa na interseção entre os estudos de gênero e de construção da paz, tratando da atuação e desafios enfrentados pelas mulheres ruandesas durante e após o genocídio de 1994. Para isso, são considerados os eventos históricos mais relevantes desde a constituição do país, especialmente no que tange a estrutura política e social de Ruanda, de modo a identificar a violência em suas raízes estruturais e culturais, que eclodem brutalmente na manifestação da guerra. Com isso, o estudo procura estabelecer relações entre o trauma vivido pelas mulheres e suas implicações para a recuperação da sociedade.
