Background: The recently proposed definition of metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) is based on the co-existence of hepatic steatosis with other metabolic disorders, including obesity and metabolic risk abnormalities such as hyperglycemia, high blood pressure and dyslipidemia.
