Tourist attractions and community-based tourism in the perspective of place: case studies from Florianópolis (Brazil)

No modelo hegemónico de turismo, o visitante, na visita que efetua a um destino turístico, mantém distância (cristalizando o seu modo de ver) relativamente ao observado e aos significados do lugar construídos pelas pessoas que com ele têm uma relação de interioridade. A oferta turística associada à procura induz impactes negativos no ambiente natural e cultural do destino. Considerando a necessidade de fortalecer ações que contrariem este modelo de turismo, optámos por contribuir com o Turismo de Base Comunitária (TBC). A escolha do TBC deve-se principalmente ao facto de ser um turismo situado, ou seja, um turismo que promove o encontro da comunidade local com os visitantes, alicerçado na proteção e valorização dos ambientes naturais e culturais associados aos lugares de interioridade dos anfitriões. Reconhecemos, portanto, que o aspeto referente ao lugar marca o referido encontro, razão que nos motivou a investigar a relação de interioridade dos anfitriões do TBC e o atrativo turístico. Trata-se de uma investigação indutiva e qualitativa, que considerou Florianópolis como locus para um estudo de caso. A partir da análise de blogues de viagem e do site oficial da prefeitura de Florianópolis, identificámos que prevalecem experiências turísticas de exterioridade com os lugares existentes. A análise realizada aos projetos de TBC realizada a partir do inquérito por entrevista aos anfitriões proponentes e aos representantes das instituições parcerias dos projetos de TBC em Florianópolis revelaram a existência de iniciativas que procuram proteger e valorizar os lugares de pertencimento, através da oferta de serviços e vivências turísticas. Os proponentes dessas ofertas, anfitriões do TBC, demonstraram uma relação de interioridade com os lugares, tanto existencial quanto empática. Porém os projetos assumem-se como iniciativas incipientes, com fragilidades nos marcadores dos atrativos turísticos.In the scenario of the first two decades of the 21st century, we observe that the market nature of tourist activities affects both places and their social meanings. In the hegemonic model of tourism, the visitor, when accessing a tourist destination, keeps a distance from the observed and from the meanings for that place constructed by people who have an insideness relationship with it. The access to space resulting from this type of approach tends to crystallize the tourist's way of being and way of seeing. The tourist offer associated with tourist demands exerts negative impacts on the natural and cultural environment of the destination. Considering the need to strengthen actions that contradict this tourism model, we decided to contribute to Community-Based Tourism (CBT). The choice for CBT is mainly due to the fact that it is a situated tourism, in other words, a tourism that promotes the encounter of the local community with visitors, based on the protection and enhancement of the natural and cultural environments associated with the places of insideness of the hosts. We therefore recognize that the aspects referring to place mark the aforementioned encounter, which is why we were motivated to investigate the relationship of insideness between CBT hosts and tourist attractions. This is an inductive and qualitative research, which takes Florianópolis as the locus for a case study. From the analysis of travel blogs, on the official website of the city hall of Florianópolis (Brazil), we identified that prevail tourist experiences of exteriority with existing places. In turn, the analyzes of the TBC projects based on the interviews with the project hosts and the representatives of partner institutions of TBC projects in Florianópolis reveal the existence of initiatives that aim to protect and enhance the places of belonging, by means of a provision of tourist services and experiences. The proponents of these offers, CBT hosts, demonstrate an insideness relationship with places, both existential and empathetic. However, the projects represent incipient initiatives, with weaknesses in the markers of tourist attractions
