Modelling an intelligent interaction system for increasing the level of attentiveness and engagement

Dissertação de mestrado em Engenharia InformáticaOne of the main factors for achieving school success is related to the level of attention and interest that students manifest in the classroom. When in the classroom students perform tasks on electronic devices, and if the classes have a high number of students, the teacher does not have the idea if a student is really attentive and focused on the tasks defined (Pimenta et al. (2015)). Usually the teacher only realizes this situation when he evaluates the students, which is in most of cases too late. However, if the teacher receives information about the attention and interest of each user (student) of a class in real time, he/she can adopt a set of teaching strategies in order to maximize the results of his/her students. Hence it is possible to avoid and prevent some negative behaviors in the classroom and increase the level of attention and consequently, school success. In terms of school success, it is common sense that a high level of attention, allows to acquire better results. This thesis intends to develop a framework which allows the teacher to visualize, in real time, the attention level of each student, allowing him to adopt strategies for the students with abnormal behaviors (Carneiro et al. (2015); Duraes et al. (2016b))
