RESUMEN: La espectroscopía inducida por láser, también conocida como LIBS (Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy), es una técnica que emplea como fuente de excitación láseres de alta energía. Permite conocer la composición elemental de todo tipo de muestras, independientemente del estado en el que se encuentren (no importa si se trata de una muestra en estado sólido, líquido o gas). Esto se consigue, básicamente, focalizando un pulso láser de corta duración sobre la superficie del material que se desee estudiar. Gracias a ello se produce un cráter en el objeto, emitiendo luz.
