Comment orienter la gestion stratégique vers la transformation sociale dans les grandes organisations de l’économie sociale et solidaire ? : une analyse de l’UCPA à l’aune de la théorie de la résonance

This thesis focuses on the strategic management of the social transformation capabilities of the major organisations operating in the social and solidarity-based economy (SSE). It shows that the identity of SSE organisations (SSEOs) is based on ensuring a connection between instrumental and non-instrumental approaches. This connection is challenged by the institutional pressure that they face. However, there are still very few management-related studies focusing on the non-instrumental relational challenges of the strategy pursued by SSE organisations; this would appear to tie in with their ability to take part in bringing about social transformation.This research is based on an open case study, adopting an ethnographic and historical perspective, rooted in the thick description of the changes in the strategic, organisational and environmental phenomena of a large prototypical voluntary-sector group of organisations operating in the social and solidarity-based economy. It draws on the critical theory of our relationship to the world around us put forward by the sociologist and philosopher Hartmut Rosa (2018) in order to explore the relational dimensions of this organisation over time. The analysis shows that the strength of this project lies in the non-instrumental nature of the relationships nurtured within the organisation. It also looks at how management practices lead to an increase or decrease in the organisation's resonance potential. Finally, resonance theory makes it possible to outline the broad framework of a strategic management approach in order to preserve this potential for resonance, which forms the basis of SSEOs’ capacity for social transformation.Cette thèse porte sur la gestion stratégique des capacités de transformation sociale des grandes organisations de l’économie sociale et solidaire (ESS). Elle montre que l’identité des organisations de l’ESS (OESS) repose sur une articulation entre logiques instrumentales et non instrumentales, articulation remise en cause par la pression institutionnelle à laquelle elles sont confrontées. Le ressort de l’innovation sociale dont sont porteuses les OESS est aussi lié à des dynamiques qui ne sont pas instrumentales. Or les travaux en gestion restent élusifs sur l’enjeu relationnel non instrumental de la stratégie des OESS, aspect qui apparaît pourtant lié à leur faculté de prendre part à la transformation sociale. La recherche est fondée sur une étude de cas ouverte, à saveur ethnographique et historique, ancrée dans la description dense de l’évolution des phénomènes stratégiques, organisationnels et environnementaux d’un grand groupe associatif prototypique de l’ESS. Elle mobilise la théorie critique de la relation au monde du sociologue et philosophe Hartmut Rosa (2018) pour explorer les dimensions relationnelles de cette organisation à travers le temps. Il apparaît que la force de son projet réside dans la nature non instrumentale des relations qui se tissent au sein de l’organisation. L’analyse porte également sur la manière dont les modalités de gestion entraînent l’accentuation ou l’atténuation du potentiel de résonance de l’organisation. La théorie de la résonance permet enfin de tracer les grandes lignes d’une gestion stratégique permettant de préserver cette disposition organisationnelle à la résonance, constitutive de la capacité de transformation sociale des OESS
