In the spirit of the so-called energy transition, the electric power system is undergoing a major development to reduce its negative environmental impacts. The goal is set to minimize the dependence on resources with high emissions, integrate more renewables, use more energy efficient devices and so on. These changes are mainly enabled by the integration of information and communication technologies (ICT) that makes the modern power system a cyber-physical system (CPS) often referred to as the smart grid.
