Mesenchymal stem/stromal cells (MSC) have been studied for 45 years for their differentiation/regeneration and immunomodulation properties. They can be derived from many tissues, such as bone marrow, adipose tissue, umbilical cord or even Wharton's jelly derived from the latter. They are examined with the aim of being applied in the fields of tissue engineering and cell therapy.
