The key factor of the governing power's domination over Parliament in the Fifth Republic is the existence of a stable and disciplined majority in the National Assembly. By studying the historical construction of the “fait majoritaire” and the functioning of the parliamentary groups, the thesis analyzes the consented subordination of the MNAs. The research relies on direct observations of the majority socialist group throughout the 14th legislature (2012-2017), interviews with MNAs and parliamentary and ministerial staff, debate record archives, and statistical data on legislative activities and profiles of MNAs.
