This thesis, a product of six published works, presents findings on the use of Virtual Reality (VR) immersive tutorials. This pedagogical tool combines a video filmed from the first-person view (FPV) and projected in VR with interactive data to create a highly effective means of training students and health professionals. Living an experience from a first-person perspective optimizes experiential learning by "learning through the eyes of an expert.” Use of this tool decreases learners’ cognitive load while increasing their engagement. We have demonstrated that regardless of age, immersive tutorials lead to a better understanding of the material as well as a gain in user confidence.
