La fabrique des esthétiques afro-caraïbéennes, une sociologie des arts et de la culture

Through a quantitative study with artists and institutions, this thesis intends to inform the process of emergence of an aesthetic in colonial, postcolonial and decolonial settings. This work is interested in economic and social modalities that have contributed to the formation of a belief in the value of Afro-Caribbean plastic productions or claiming them. The field survey is based on the analysis of questionnaires, artistic data collections, clinical interviews, participatory and ethnographic observations. The study questions the rationalities of visual artist and their expressions in figurative representation, speeches and practices. By accounting for many issues that reside in the sphere of arts and culture, the research articulates historical and geopolitical influences in the construction of a segment of contemporary art. She also observes the methods of valuating and fighting for empowerment of the social actor.À travers une étude quantitative et qualitative auprès de plasticien.nes.s. et d’institutions, la présente thèse se propose de renseigner le processus d’émergence d’une esthétique en milieu colonial, postcolonial et décolonial. Ce travail s'intéresse aux modalités économiques et sociales ayant concouru à la formation d’une croyance en la valeur des productions plastiques afro-caraïbéennes ou s’en réclamant. L’enquête de terrain s’appuie sur l’analyse de questionnaires, de recueils de données artistiques, d'entretiens cliniques, d’observations participantes et de type ethnographique. Elle interroge les rationalités des plasticiens et leurs effets dans la représentation figurative, les discours et les pratiques. En rendant compte des nombreux enjeux qui résident dans la sphère des arts et de la culture, la recherche articule influences historiques et géopolitiques dans la construction d’un segment de l’art contemporain.
