The Agouraï causse represents the western part of the Moroccan Middle Atlas causse and it is characterized by a tabular structure dominated by the outcropping of dolomitic limestone formations of liasic age, which are based on triassic evaporite red clays and then on primary schists. The limestones are affected by an important fracturing and structuring by Hercynian inheritance faults which replayed during the course of the Mesozoic or even the plioquaternary. The Lias limestones of this causse form a very busy aquifer in the exploitation of groundwater for agricultural purposes.
