A Midsummer Night\u27s Dream--A Creole Creation: Directing Shakespeare in a High School Setting

A full-length production of Shakespeare\u27s A Midsummer Night\u27s Dream was rehearsed and performed at Sunset High School in Portland, Oregon. The production was set in New Orleans during Mardi Gras in 1926. Research was conducted on Shakespeare\u27s life, appropriate acting methods, and the play\u27s historical and cultural context including lighting properties, setting, music, and costumes. Design concept statements were developed, the play was produced, and the experience was considered critically, both as an artistic production and as a learning experience
