This study examined teachers' perspectives of their early reading instruction in Victorian state primary schools. The literature review highlights a deep body of scientific research related to improving early reading for many children. Outcomes revealed considerable conflict and frustration between colleagues and leadership in schools regarding the use of scientifically-based research evidence for early reading instruction to reach a wider range of learners. </p
