Physico-chemical, antioxidant and phenolic characteristics of blueberry genotypes and commercial cultivars (Vaccinium spp.).

Blueberry fruits have high levels of antioxidants, phenolic compounds and anthocyanins, thus giving them functional properties. However, the content of these compounds may vary according to the edaphoclimatic characteristics of the region, growing conditions, in addition to genetic differences inherent to the genotypes of different cultivars and selections. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze and compare the physicochemical, antioxidant and phenolic characteristics of fruits from six selected genotypes (BB3, BB4, BB6, PW1, PW2 and PW5) in relation to seven commercial cultivars (Bluebelle, Bluegem, Briteblue, Climax, Delite, Powderblue and Woodard), from the 2019/2020 production cycle. The experiment was conducted in the field, with fruits from an experimental area, located in the third district of Pelotas, RS, and at the Postharvest Physiology Laboratory of Fruits and Vegetables, of the Department of Agroindustrial Science and Technology (DCTA), from the Faculty of Agronomy Eliseu Maciel (FAEM), where the evaluations were carried out. To carry out the analysis, approximately 1 kg of fruits in complete maturity stage of each genotype and in three randomly chosen clones of each cultivar were collected. The samples used in the analysis of color, soluble solids, pH and total titratable acidity were weighed and separated by repetition (R1, R2 and R3), containing 100 g of fruits in wet mass. For the quantification of antioxidants (DPPH and ABTS), total phenolic compounds, total flavonoids, total anthocyanins and individual anthocyanins, 200 g of fruits in dry mass were weighed and separated by repetition. Results indicate that the genotypes and cultivars evaluated provided high levels of antioxidants, phenolics, flavonoids, total and individual anthocyanins. Highlighting ‘Bluegem’, ‘Briteblue’, ‘Climax’, ‘Delite’ and the PW1, PW2, PW5 and BB3 genotypes. It was concluded that the studied genotypes did not show superiority in relation to their parents and possible parents. However, they have as much functional potential as the cultivars already consolidated in the market. In addition to possibly having greater adaptation to the edaphoclimatic conditions of southern Brazil, since they were cultivated and selected in Rio Grande do Sul.Sem bolsaOs frutos do mirtileiro possuem teores elevados de antioxidantes, compostos fenólicos e antocianinas, conferindo assim, propriedades funcionais aos mesmos. No entanto, o conteúdo desses compostos pode apresentar variabilidade de acordo com as características edafoclimáticas da região, condições de cultivo, além das diferenças genéticas inerentes aos genótipos de diferentes cultivares e seleções. Portanto, com este estudo objetivou-se analisar e comparar as características físico-químicas, antioxidantes e fenólicas dos frutos oriundos de seis genótipos selecionados (BB3, BB4, BB6, PW1, PW2 e PW5) em relação a sete cultivares comerciais (Bluebelle, Bluegem, Briteblue, Climax, Delite, Powderblue e Woodard), oriundos do ciclo de produção 2019/2020. O experimento foi conduzido a campo, com frutos provenientes de uma área experimental, localizada no terceiro distrito de Pelotas, RS, e no Laboratório de Fisiologia de Pós-Colheita de Frutos e Hortaliças, do Departamento de Ciência e Tecnologia Agroindustrial (DCTA), da Faculdade de Agronomia Eliseu Maciel (FAEM), onde foram realizadas as avaliações. Para a realização das análises foram colhidos, aproximadamente, 1 kg de frutos em estádio completo de maturação de cada genótipo e em três clones de cada cultivar comercial escolhidos aleatoriamente. As amostras utilizadas nas análises de cor, sólidos solúveis, pH e acidez titulável foram pesadas e separadas por repetição (R1, R2 e R3), contendo 100 g de frutos em massa úmida. Já para a quantificação dos antioxidantes (DPPH e ABTS), compostos fenólicos totais, flavonoides totais, antocianinas totais e antocianinas individuais, foram pesados e separados 200 g de frutos em massa seca por repetição. Os resultados indicam que os genótipos e as cultivares avaliadas, conferiram altos teores de antioxidantes, fenólicos, flavonoides, antocianinas totais e individuais. Destacando-se ‘Bluegem’, ‘Briteblue’, ‘Climax’, ‘Delite’ e os genótipos PW1, PW2, PW5 e BB3. Concluiu-se que os genótipos estudados não apresentaram superioridade em relação aos seus genitores e possíveis genitores. Porém, os mesmos possuem tanto potencial funcional quanto as cultivares já consolidadas no mercado. Além de possivelmente, possuírem maior adaptação às condições edafoclimáticas da região Sul do Brasil, uma vez que foram cultivadas e selecionadas no Rio Grande do Sul
