Abstract\u2014This paper deals with the design of a 1-kW perma- nent-magnet (PM) brushless motor operating in the speed range of 20\u201340 k r/min. The design procedure involves a parametrical in- vestigation of the most adequate motor con\ufb01guration by means of a coupled thermal and electromagnetic analysis. The design pro- cedure takes advantage of an analytical study based on Maxwell\u2019s equations and is re\ufb01ned by \ufb01nite-element analysis. Both slotted and slotless motor con\ufb01gurations have been taken into account, with different PM materials for an overall comparison of the motor per- formance
