The anatomy and pathophysiology of Transposition of the Great Arteries (TGA) are described in this session. Systemic blood flow in an unrepaired heart and with expected assessment findings are illustrated. A description of the surgical repair is provided for both uncomplicated and complex patients. Post-operative systemic blood flow is illustrated based on the arterial switch operation. Patient A underwent a complete repair with a successful switch of the pulmonary artery and aorta. Patient B had an extensive and complicated post-operative course following TGA repair. An examination of two separate patient case studies of infants with TGA follows.
