The in vitro metabolism of 17betaboldenone, illegally used as growth promoter in cattle, was studied by using microsomes prepared from the liver of 10 healthy veal calves. Sample anlysis were performed with an HPLC coupled with an UV detector. In all microsomes incubations only a small amount of two more polar putative metabolites were found; morever none of these was demonstrated to be Boldione. These data need to be confirmed by LC-MS/MS to find the in vitro assays relationship to the in vivo situation in healthy veal calves
