From Exit Strategies to Social Cohesion Policies: Forming New Coalitions Pursuing Social Justice and Environmental Sustainability

The ongoing COVID-19 Crisis is enforcing the development model based of technological innovation and market interactions, at most mitigated by the intervention of the public sector, as well as an individual propensity to elaborate exit strategies to common problems. While this development model seems to be mis-specified with respect to the existence of societal needs that may trigger non-linear dynamics, that does not prevent from operating some redistribution informally. This process, however, is characterized by the spread of a multitude of social dilemmas, therefore it is of the utmost importance to restore a sentiment of solidarity among people and institutions to cope at least with the most harmful consequences of accepting a higher exposure to risks with respect to the adoption of self-interested behaviours. While SSE organizations may contribute to rising at individual level an intrinsic motivation toward redistributive instances, universities may contribute to “extend” the so-called neoclassical theories (especially in the field of economics) to issues that are often overlooked, as unobserved qualitative mismatches, latent social dilemmas, and distance costs originating from social and territorial distances
