Nowadays, the development of high urban heat leads Italy to promote the expansion of the district heating infrastructures on its national territory. If the passage from individual heating plants to District Heating (DH) is a common practice in many northern regions, due to the high heat demand concentration, few are the existing DH networks and projects developed for this purpose, that interest the southern Italian regions. The aim of the study is to assess if this technology combined with wood biomass cogeneration can be exploited with advantage also in southern Italy, especially in mountain areas.
