Orality and writing in Alexandrian Christianity

En este trabajo se procura estudiar la relación de tensión o convivencia entre la transmisión oral y la transmisión escrita del conocimiento en el ámbito alejandrino de los siglos III y IV. En primer lugar, se presenta una síntesis del papel protagónico que posee la escritura en el primer cristianismo que dio lugar a ser denominadas “comunidades textuales”. La pregunta que surge es si puede predicarse lo mismo de las comunidades cristianas, concretamente, si en Alejandría y su zona de influencia la escritura cobró protagonismo reemplazando a la oralidad. En la segunda parte, entonces, se analiza el papel de la oralidad en los autores de la tradición alejandrina, partiendo del obligado antecedente platónico y deteniéndose en los textos claves. Se concluye que, a pesar de un preferencia clara por la oralidad, en los alejandrinos no se observa el rechazo por la escritura sino su rápida adopción con ciertas cautelas y recaudos.The aim of this paper is to study the relationship of tension or coexistence between oral and written transmission of knowledge in the Alexandrian sphere of the third and fourth centuries. First of all, a synthesis of the leading role played by writing in early Christianity, which gave rise to the so-called “textual communities”, is presented. The question that arises is whether the same can be said of the Christian communities, namely, whether in Alexandria and its area of influence writing took over the leading role from orality. The second part, then, analyses the role of orality in the authors of the Alexandrian tradition, starting from the obligatory Platonic antecedent and focusing on the key texts. The conclusion is that, despite a clear preference for orality, the Fathers did not reject writing, but rather adopted it quickly, with certain precautions and precautions.Fil: Peretó Rivas, Rubén Angel.
