This article is devoted to the study of the image of the Assyrian court and royal behaviour as preserved and interpreted in the Persian period in relation to the Achaemenid court and court etiquette. The main problem in the background is the degree and the quality of the preservation of the memory of the Assyrian empire after its fall in 612 BCE, especially at the Achaemenid court and among the members of the Persian \ue9lite governing the new universal empire founded by Cyrus II. The first subject is the strong importance given to war cruelties in narrative texts like the royal inscriptions, in the official correspondence protocol, and in the visual representation of the palace reliefs.
