Carbon neutral architecture and urban districts

The following doctoral dissertation research aims to investigate the strategies, actions and innovative materials available to date in order to absorb, reduce and store CO₂ from the atmosphere, analyzing these strategies in case studies present in Europe in order to verify the best actions to be taken in response to current climate change. This research, aimed at architects, planners, and entities pertaining to this product area, is intended to provide support and a detailed methodological framework for the aforementioned in order to address decisions regarding best practices and actions to be implemented in urban and peri-urban districts. The sequences of the methodological procedure, as well as the weights between the different stages of the research, result structured according to the most established logical frameworks, setting clear milestones for the green and grey strategies illustrated, validating them through a final applicative-experimental proposal. The thesis presents a framework of actions divided according to grey and green solutions designed to address the global reduction of carbon emissions with respect to the agreements undertaken and ratified in COP21 in Paris with specific actions of greater political commitments in reducing atmospheric carbon emissions in COP26 in Glasgow. The originality of the research is in providing for the combined use of green and grey solutions in synergistic action with the goal of halving carbon emissions by 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality by 2050
