Nanocomposite thin films com - posed of Au nanoparticles dispersed inside a TiO2-NiO mixed oxide matrix are synthesized with the sol-gel method and characterized structurally and morphologically. Optical gas sensing tests have been perform ed under H2S, CO, H2 and propane exposure, showing high sensitivity and selectivity towards hydrogen sulfide detection. A possible reaction mechanism is also reported
