This contribution explores the concepts of terminology and phraseology together with the linguistic properties of terms in the field of collocations. It illustrates some of the theoretical approaches based on the use of the term collocation itself and on the word combinations it refers to. The comparison of the definitions of the concept of collocation taken from English Collocations Dictionaries highlights some discrepancies in their wording and terminology and the analysis of selected entries reveals (slightly) different linguistic approaches.
