The International Stem Rust Phenotyping Platform in Njoro, Kenya, established in 2008, supports screening against stem rust of up to 50,000 wheat lines per year from up to 25 countries. The platform facilitates breeding to identify and develop new resistant lines. Over the last decade, over 100 wheat cultivars resistant to the stem rust race Ug99 and its variants have been released, benefitting smallholder wheat farmers worldwide and demonstrating the progress made in breeding for stem rust resistance globally
