The Vampire in Novels Dracula, The Gorjanci Vampire, and The Nights of the Wolves

Stokerjev Drakula (1897), Dolenčev Vampir z Gorjancev: Fantastična povest (1979) in Žabotove Volčje noči (1996) so romani, ki jim je skupen osrednji motiv vampirja oziroma posrednejša, motivno širša ljudska/mitska navezava nanj. Fenomen pojava vampirja v literaturi iščem znotraj zgodovinskega konteksta, ki ga omejim na folklorne legende, realne osebe in bolezni. Analizi žanrske podobe ter strukture, pripovedi in sloga v obravnavanih romanih sledi analiza in primerjava vampirja. Podobo vampirja obravnavam z vidika različnih vlog literarnih oseb (»vampir«, »žrtev«, »vedež«), zanima pa me tudi dinamika odnosov med njimi.Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1897), Mate Dolenc’s The Gorjanci Vampire (Vampir z Gorjancev: Fantastična povest, 1979), and Vlado Žabot’s The Nights of the Wolves (Volčje noči, 1996) are novels that share a central vampire motif or a more indirect, thematically-broader folk/mythical connection to it. I look for the phenomenon of the appearance of a vampire in literature within a historical context that I limit to folklore legends, real people, and diseases. The analysis of the genre image and the structure, narrative and style in the novels under consideration is followed by an analysis and comparison of the vampire. I consider the image of a vampire from the point of view of various roles of literary figures (»vampire«, »victim«, »oracle«), but I am also interested in the dynamics of relations between them
