The dramatic events of 1928 and 1929 presented a watershed moment in the history of Russia: the Stalin Revolution marked the beginning of the totalitarian era in all spheres of life in the Soviet state. These events were triggered by the debates at the five plenums of the Central Committee of the Soviet Communist Party (CPSU) in April 1928- November 1929. The discreditation of A. I. Rykov - the last right-wing member of the Political Bureau (Politburo) of the CPSU - was carefully and consistenly stage-managed by Stalin.
