Digital Humanities and Classical Philology. Contemporary directions

[EN] Information technologies play a decisive and unprecedented role in our present society, also in the world of scientific research. Classical Philology has been a true pioneer in the use of Digital Humanities. Already in the eighties of the twentieth century, initiatives and projects proliferated that gave immediate access to the texts and materials which, undoubtedly, are an essential part of the European cultural heritage. Nonetheless, it is necessary that Classical Philology keeps going further and incorporates the most recent leading-edge technologies. These enable that users to interact with the contents in ways nobody could image thirty years ago. There are important research projects worldwide taking giant steps in this direction. Their astonishing results are contributing to dispel the misgivings of a certain sceptical sector of the Humanities academic world. Nonetheless, much still remains to be done in Spain. Thus, the political authorities and the members of the academic community should provide the means so both teachers and students of Classics can acquire the digital competence that our present society demands.[ES] Las tecnologías de comunicación juegan un papel determinante y sin precedentes en todos los ámbitos de la sociedad actual, también en el mundo de la investigación científica. La Filología Clásica fue una auténtica pionera en la aplicación de las Humanidades Digitales. Ya en los años ochenta del siglo xx proliferaron iniciativas y proyectos que tenían como fin poner a disposición del público el acceso inmediato a los textos y materiales que son parte esencial del acervo cultural de Europa. Con todo, es necesario adecuarse a las más recientes tecnologías que permiten que el usuario interactúe con los contenidos de una forma inimaginable hace treinta años. Serán objeto de atención los más importantes proyectos que están dando pasos de gigante en este sentido. Sus magníficos resultados han logrado vencer las reticencias que algún sector académico muestra hacia la producción científica en soporte electrónico. En España es mucho lo que queda por hacer; por ello, es urgente que las autoridades políticas y el conjunto de la comunidad investigadora y docente ponga los medios para que tanto los profesores como los alumnos de Clásicas adquieran la competencia digital que los tiempos exigen.Peer reviewe
