Caracterización de los substratos biológicos sobre los que prolifera el dinoflagelado tóxico Ostreopsis cf. ovata

III Congreso de Jóvenes Investigadores del Mar, celebrado del 6 al 9 de septiembre de 2021, Motril, Spain[ES] Benthic toxic harmful algal blooms, and in particular, the proliferations of the species Ostreopsis cf. ovata, are becoming more frequent in temperate regions, including the Mediterranean coasts. O. cf. ovata recurrent blooms covering macroalgal communities have been reported in the last 20 years in the beach of Sant Andreu de Llavaneres (NW Mediterranean) during the summer-fall period. Some of the blooms have been associated to respiratory irritations on beach users and are considered nowadays an emergent hazard. The appropriate monitoring of these benthic blooming species requires to have a good understanding of its substrate preferences. With this aim, a taxonomic characterization of the macroalgal communities during the 2019 and 2020 summers was conducted. Corallinales species were dominant, forming turfs typical of non-complex and degraded habitats, subjected to anthropogenic pressure (highly urbanized and eutrophic). In addition, the bloom was monitored on six macroalgal species and a bryozoan in 2020. Quantitatively, the cell concentrations of O. cf. ovata per fresh weight of the different substrates sampled showed high variability along the bloom with the highest values estimated on Jania spp. and Amathia verticillata. Qualitatively, the general temporal trend of the 2020 bloom was pretty similar, independently of the sampled substrate, suggesting that any dominant macroalga can be appropriate to monitor an O. cf. ovata bloom. However, given that the absolute cell concentrations are used to ascertain the risk of the bloom to human health, more in-depth studies of the links between O. cf. ovata and the benthic substrates are required.[ES] Durante las últimas décadas, las proliferaciones de microalgas bentónicas nocivas (en inglés Benthic Harmful Algal Blooms -BHABs-) de Ostreopsis cf. ovata Y. Fukuyo 1981, constituyen un fenómeno recurrente durante el verano en costas templadas. Este dinoflagelado bentónico se adhiere a los sustratos (macroalgas, fanerógamas, arena, etc.) secretando mucopolisacáridos ácidos. Sus proliferaciones se han relacionado con impactos negativos en la salud humana (irritaciones respiratorias, intoxicaciones alimentarias, ...) y en los ecosistemas que podrían estar relacionadas con análogos de la palitoxina (PLTX) (Pavaux et al., 2020). Este estudio se ha centrado en la proliferación de Ostreopsis que se desarrolla de forma recurrente cada verano, de junio a octubre, sobre una densa comunidad de macroalgas en una playa poco profunda (entre 0,2 y 1,5 m), rocosa y muy bien iluminada de Sant Andreu de Llavaneres. En esta zona, personas expuestas al aerosol marino durante la proliferación de la microalga, han experimentado principalmente síntomas respiratorios. Nuestro objetivo fue conocer en detalle la comunidad de macroalgas y explorar si determinadas especies son un substrato preferente de O. cf. ovata en este hábita
