In the era of the antibiotic crisis, novel antimicrobials are sought to fight multidrug resistant pathogens. Bacteriocins are antimicrobial peptides synthesized by bacteria. Initially proposed as natural antimicrobials for food biopreservation, they are slowly moving into the clinic.
