THE INFLUENCE OF FAMILY AND SOCIAL FACTORS ON EDUCATIONAL ATTAINMENT

The aim of the bachelor's thesis is a detailed analysis of family and social factors that contribute significantly to the amount of education a person has attained. The primary focus of the thesis is on the family, the socio-economic environment of the family or the education of the parents, which I consider to be the most relevant in the question of influence on educational attainment. Among the secondary, additional factors, the thesis mentions social influence as a part of a person's life in the school or extended family environment. In addition to immediate family members, parents in particular, the views and attitudes of peers, friends, relatives, as well as the school, also influence a person to no small extent. The theoretical part of the thesis deals with the family, as the basic structure unit of human socialisation, from different perspectives. It discusses the distinctiveness of each family's socio-economic environment and the capital that is given and forwarded to its offsprings. Parents are the main factor in the family environment who are involved in their children's educational success, which is confirmed and further analysed by the theories contained in this section of the thesis.
