The Arctic Ocean is undergoing remarkable environmental changes due to global warming. The rise in the Arctic near-surface air temperature during the past decades is twice as high as the global average, a phenomenon known as the “Arctic Amplification”. As a consequence the Arctic summer sea ice extent has decreased by more than 40 % in recent decades, and moreover a year-round sea ice loss in extent and thickness was recorded. By opening up of large areas formerly covered by sea ice, the exchange of heat, moisture and momentum between the ocean and atmosphere intensified. This resulted in changes in the ocean circulation and the water masses impacting the marine ecosystem. We investigate these changes by using a large set of hydrographic an...
At present, although seasonal sea-ice cover mitigates atmosphere-ocean gas exchange, the Arctic Ocea...
The Arctic is the fastest changing region on the planet. It is also intrinsically tied to global pro...
The Arctic environment is changing, rapidly. Sea ice concentrations and ice extent are decreasing, t...
The rapid recent decline of Arctic Ocean sea ice area increases the flux of solar radiation availabl...
The Arctic Ocean is, on average, the shallowest of Earth’s oceans. Its vast continental shelf areas,...
The objectives of this paper are to summarise: (1) observed 20th-century and projected 21st-century ...
The Arctic region is undergoing some of the most rapid rates of climate change in the world [1], wit...
Inclement climate conditions have made the Arctic Ocean logistically difficult to study, and thus, o...
The Earth’s climate is changing and the poles are particularly sensitive to the global warming, with...
Phytoplankton have attracted increasing attention in climate science due to their impacts on climate...
