We investigate the cosmological role of a tracking field \u3c6 in extended quintessence scenarios, where the dynamical vacuum energy driving the acceleration of the universe today possesses an explicit coupling with the Ricci scalar R of the form F(\u3c6)R/2, where F(\u3c6) mimics general relativity today, F(\u3c60)=1/8\u3c0G. We analyze explicit nonminimally coupled (NMC) models where F(\u3c6)=1/8\u3c0G+\u3be(\u3c62-\u3c620), with \u3be is the coupling constant and \u3c60 is the Q value today. Tracker solutions for these NMC models, with inverse power-law potentials, possess an initial enhancement of the scalar field dynamics, named the R-boost, caused by the effective potential generated by the Ricci scalar in the Klein-Gordon equation.
